President McCord called the meeting to order. A new club member was introduced to all members present. Mike Ford presented the program speakers, Barry and Marilyn Gelsinger to give a report on their biking tour in Holland in September. Marilyn reported the pictures taken from their camera were inadvertently deleted and the video tape was stuck in their VCR in Pennsylvania. Their plane trip took 7 ½ hours with the first bike ride starting at 7:00 am the following day. The average route distance was 30 miles. There were 10,000 bicycles located in the parking garage and sand dunes were the highest point in Holland which is part of their dyke system. Marilyn passed around the daily route schedule they followed each day. Two memorable points of interest that Marilyn noticed was the riders in Holland do not wear helmets and the bicycles were of ordinary quality. The Treasurer’s report noted the expenses for the month were zero with one new membership. The balance in the bank was $3,364.04 with 179 members. As voted on at the previous meeting, the members attending this meeting received a $15.00 gift card from Bike & Fitness. Pat Stephens is the Ride Director for October. In his absence, Lee reported on upcoming rides in the area: The Fire Ant Ride in Marshall would be held this weekend, next Saturday ride is scheduled from Gregg County Airport and the third Saturday ride will be from the Bike Shop. Reminder that David Plants will host supper for those attending the Monday, October 15th bike ride. Ben Gallagher stated the Time Trials from last month were down considerably with only 3 riders participating. Discussion followed on the continuance of this event with the low number of participants. . The Annual Weiner Roast hosted at the Duey Estates will be Thursday, October 25, 2007 after the bike ride. Please call Martha Duey at 903-643-3885 to inform her of the items you will bring to this event so we can be sure there will be a variety of food. Christmas Party for LBC is scheduled for Saturday, December 8, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. This event will be at Big Dave’s BBQ next to the Bicycle Shop. It was the consensus of the members present to have the White Elephant gift exchange due to the success of last year’s gift giving. Roger Vandeventer has given his bid for 2008 LBC President. Brenda Dietz stated she would be willing to serve as Secretary, Joe Bruner as Time Trials Director (if event produces enough riders to continue) and Lee McCord would serve as Ride Director. Sharon McCord is willing to stay as Treasurer for 2008. Mike Ford volunteered to bring drinks for those attending the Monday night rides from the Bike Shop next year The only position open would be Program Director. Suggestion was made to not require a speaker at each meeting and just provide a program for the monthly meetings. If you are interested, please notify Roger or Lee.
Signing off, Carla Ford |
