Plans for an LBC ride in the Davis Mountains this summer continue. So join us on Thursday August 11th to Monday August 15th for some great riding and fun in the beautiful Davis Mountains of West Texas. I have made our personal reservations at the Veranda and they say if we get enough LBC folks there, they will give us a reduced rate -- so each of you need to make a reservation so I can sleep cheaper!! They have even agreed to do special Cyclist breakfast for us at the times we would like. Of course, the Indian Lodge at the State Park three miles out of town is very charming and camping is available at the State Park also, so make your plans and let's ride.

I have made a tentative reservation for a 15 passenger van ($$ Deposit required by May 1st) which we can use to pull the LBC trailer with bikes to the Davis Mountains -- fitting as many people inside as feel comfortable or we have room for -- the rest of you/us will make our way out there in personal vehicles but we will have the van and trailer for sag and one way rides. Anyway, we will make the decision on whether to do the van thing or not sometime before May 1st.

Here is a possible schedule:
Thursday Aug 11th - Drive to Ft Davis -- 10 hours

Friday Aug 12th - Ride to Balmorhea State Park - a 32 mile mostly downhill ride starting at 5050 ft in Ft Davis to 3205 ft at Balmorhea -- oh - there is a "bump" in the middle called Wild Rose Pass! After a swim in the COLD spring water at the park, we will all load in the van and sag back, but you CAN ride your bike back uphill if you would like.

Saturday August 13th - Today, we will ride all or part of the 75 mile scenic loop starting and ending in Ft Davis. The loop climbs to 6270 ft at the McDonald Observatory, plunges into Madera Canyon, goes by Bear Mountain (6200 ft) down into Merril Canyon and through some pretty lonely and interesting desert before we get back -- somebody will need to sag this or trade sag because there is nothing on the loop but beautiful mountains and one low traffic road.

Sunday August 14th -- Ride to Marfa for lunch and return -- a 54 mile round trip or it could become a one way 27 miler if we are still tired from the scenic loop ride. (Some could opt to not ride at all -- oh my!)

Monday August 15th -- 10 hour Trudge home and back to work - YUK.
